The final project for this unit is an inquiry project on the issue "Should the province of British Columbia support the Trans Mountain Pipeline?" Please see the separate page for instructions, resources, and examples. We will be working on this project for approximately the next 6 classes.
Sept 23, 2019In class we discussed the environment and economy. We talked about some of the challenges that Canadian face in the continuing climate crisis as well as the compromise that has to happen to maintain jobs in resource sectors in Canada. We completed the following worksheet in class using a think-pair-share strategy.

Today in class we look the "Canada I Side With" survey to see which political party you most closely align with when considering some major topics of debate around the election. After taking the survey we had a groups discussion on the challenges that Canadians face when attempting to find a political party that most closely aligns with your own personal beliefs and values. Sept 17, 2019
Today in class we looked at two important case studies of times when the environment clashed with economic motives. Together as a class we took notes on the Lubcion Lake issue in northern Alberta and in small groups you analyzed the Lyell Island blockade. Both of these case studies are reminders that often the environmental interests of groups are at odds with economic interests of other groups. It is important to consider different perspectives when talking about these issues.

Sept 13, 2019The first part of the class was spent completing the Map of Canada Quiz. Secondly we moved onto discuss climate change and weather across the world. We watched two videos to explore the topic and created a SEE-I poster to explore some key vocabulary terms.

Sept 11, 2019In class we began our audio book and listened to chapter 1. We discussed the kick off of the election and the general parties in class. Finally we completed the worksheet and discussed the format of the quiz. The format of the quiz is as follows:

Sept 9, 2019Today we reviewed the provinces, territories, and capital cities in Canada. We then took to our textbooks to learn about the six geographical regions of Canada. Once we wrote down a few notes about the regions, we coloured in a second map with the six regions of Canada.

Sept 5, 2019In class we reviewed the syllabus, classroom expectations, and the overall 'road map' of the semester together. We created name tags and played two truths and a lie together to get to know each other.
