Today we completed a few housekeeping items. First we are going recap our presentation from yesterday thinking about a few key 'take-aways'. Then we revisited our social media discussion from a few days ago. Then we are going to reinvestigate our inquiry project from the beginning of the year - assignment to come on Monday. You are going to be BUSY for the next 3 weeks of Career-Life!

Today the first part of our double block was spent watching a MADD presentation. In Careers we had a guest presentation from Milo through the ANKORS organization from Nelson BC. Yesterday, we had X-Block. Today we spend some time discussing gender discrimination. We brainstormed what gender stereotypes exist in our world, as well as, what typical job gender roles often occupy. This was in preparation for our guest lecture on Trans and LGBTQ+ identity.

Nov 7, 2019Today I wanted to just take a step back, and do something fun and calming. We began to "Map Our Memories". In thinking about how place can be unique and different to everyone, it is important to be mindful of the place and space we occupy and how all of our own memories intersect to create a dynamic world.

Oct 28, 2019Today we discussed how to create a S.M.A.R.T. goal for yourself. After taking some notes on the topic we created our own S.M.A.R.T goal. We will do a check in at the beginning of December to see if you have accomplished your goal. You will be responsible for providing evidence that you have achieved your goal. This should be handed in!

Oct 24, 2019Today in class we are going to explore WorkSafe BC and how to work safely as a young employee. We are also going to explore the steps of getting a SIN.
Your task for the SIN is to read the document on "Applying for your Social Insurance Number". You and one partner are going to create a flow chart on the steps involved with the SIN number. Your flowchart should be clearly colour coded and neatly written.

Oct 22, 2019Today in class we looked at a variety of new employment strategies and networking. We also did a scavenger hunt on the BC Employment Standards website to familiarize yourselves with the different laws around employers.

Today in class we began to brainstorms the 'New Ways' of finding a job. We discussed the do's and don'ts of job networking and the challenges of future employment.
